POW WOW in Hong Kong consists of two days with things kicking off with the "Wham Bam Thank You M'am!!!" exhibition at the newly opened Above Second gallery in the fledgling creative district of Sai Ying Pun. American-born, Hong Kong-based artist Jasper Wong came together with Chinese-born, Paris-based Wu Yue as they created a series of pieces exclusively for the show. Within the showing as well were some collaborative pieces which embodied the aesthetics of both artists.
The following day of POW WOW involved a gallery showing at Garageworks. Just a stone's throw away from the Above Second gallery, the show included brand new work from the likes of Britain's Will Barras, Canadian illustrator Pat Lee, and Singapore's Jahan Loh. The show was then capped off by a live painting performance with the roster of aforementioned artists as well as Wu Yue and Jasper Wong who had opened their show the night before. Surprising the audience, the performance ended with the artists blacking out their canvases and writing "POW WOW! BOOM!" to commemorate the finale of the Garageworks show.
With the completion of the art events, a party to celebrate the music portion took place immediately after at the renowned Volar. Featuring Verbal and Yoon of Ambush fame, the DJs spun a selection of old and new beats that shook the dance floor till the early morning hours.
It would be great to hear from you!
